There are a number of problems that can be caused by wisdom teeth. They can begin to grow at the wrong angle or facing the wrong way. There may not be enough room in your mouth to accommodate them so they fail to break through your gums. They may break through your gums but only come part of the way because there is not enough room: this can cause a flap of tissue to grow over the teeth which can then trap food and cause gum infections.

Wisdom teeth may also be so far back in your mouth that it is difficult or impossible to clean around them properly, again leading to gum infections.
